Reel to Real: Hidden Figures Screening & Talkback - ImaginOn
We're celebrating Black History all day, every day in the Teen Loft! Join us on February 13 from 2 pm to 5 pm for a special screening of the award winning 2016 biographical film, Hidden Figures, based on the book by Margarette Lee Shetterly. Hidden Figures is the true story of three African American NASA scientists and mathematicians, Katherine Johnson (played by Taraji P. Henson), Mary Jackson (played by Janelle Monáe), and Dorothy Vaughan (played by Octavia Spencer), who were essential in the earliest space flight missions at NASA in the 1960s while dealing with racial discrimination. After the screening, we'll have a talkback and open discussion about the film, the history of Black scientists and mathematicians, and physics presentation led by a special guest, Physics Senior at NC A &T, Alexandra Jones! You don't want to miss this celebration of Black film and history!
