Gershwin's Magic Key with Charlotte Symphony

Step back in time to 1920s New York City as a newspaper boy encounters the legendary composer George Gershwin and embarks on a journey through the city's vibrant music scene. Featuring more than twenty beloved Gershwin tunes, including classics from Porgy and Bess to hits like "I Got Rhythm," this enchanting concert promises a magical exploration of American music.

Pre-Concert Activity: 10 AM
Arrive early for a symphony story time that's full of rhythm and razzmatazz! Starting one hour before the concert, our friends from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library will present Suzanne Slade's "The Music in George's Head," the story of how George Gershwin turned the sounds of New York -- classical, jazz, and blues -- into his masterpiece, Rhapsody in Blue.
Family series concerts are an hour long and presented without intermission.
