Join us for La Libertad: A Juneteenth Celebration! We will have a variety of events and offerings available for you to celebrate and embrace Black history.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
  • Criss Cross Mangosauce: Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans and is often referred to as America’s Second Independence Day. Join Criss Cross Mangosauce as they explore various themes related to Juneteenth, including fairness, equality, perseverance and freedom. Families can walk through the 1774 Alexander Homesite guided by “A Walk with Jenny,” a digital guidebook that takes young learners through a day in the life of a young enslaved girl who lived and worked on the homesite during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

  • Path of Portraits Painting and Reflection Video: Come watch the creation of the third and final addition to the 2023 Path of Portraits! This painting is a unique group portrait of the Charlotteans who participated in the Charlotte sit-ins on February 1, 1960.

  • Black history tour: In place of our normal tour, this tour of the homesite centers on Black history at the homesite from slavery through the present day.
